Gestern waren meine beiden Kollegen, Scotty und Tomcat unterwegs. Sie haben eine Radtour zum Aussichtsturm auf dem Hügel Aavasaksanvaara in Finnland gemacht. Die Kuppe liegt 242m über dem Meeresspiegel und der Anstieg war ein wenig anstrengend. Aber es hat sich gelohnt. Auf dem Turm hat man einen Rundumblick auf die offiziellen Nationallandschaften Finnlands.

Yesterday, my two colleagues, Scotty and Tomcat were on the way. They have made a bike ride to the observation tower on the hill Aavasaksanvaara in Finland. The hill rises 242m above sea level and the climb was a bit exhausting. But it was worth it. On the tower you have a panoramic view of the official national landscapes from the summit.

Mein tapferes Zugfahrzeug, ich nenne ihn Vollo, hat einen Ausflug zum Jockfall gemacht und hat dabei den Polarkreis überquert. Der Jockfall ist ein Wasserfall mit 9m Fallhöhe des Flusses Kalixälv. Hier könnte man im Juni und Juli Lachse angeln. Aber aufgepasst, an geraden Tagen ist das Fliegenfischen und an ungeraden das Spinnfischen erlaubt. Die Angelkarte gibt es direkt im Shop am Wasserfall oder ganz modern per QR-Code im Wald.

My brave towing vehicle, I call him Vollo has made a trip to the Jackfall and has thereby passed the Arctic Circle. The Jackfall is a waterfall with 9m fall height of the river Kalixälv. You could fish salmon in June and July. But watch out, on even days fly fishing is allowed and on odd days spin fishing is allowed. The fishing license is available directly in the shop at the waterfall or fully modern per QR-code in the forest .

Letzte Nacht war der Hammer, genau vor mir tauchten die Nordlichter auf. Das war unbeschreiblich. Es sind noch nicht die ganz starken aber es ist trotzdem schon sehr eindrücklich.

Last night was awesome, just in front of me the northern lights appeared. That was indescribable. There are not yet very strong but it’s still very impressive.

Die letzte Etappe, vor dem ersten längeren Stopp, war noch einsamer als die Strecken bisher. Entlang einsamer Wälder, vieler Seen und kleinen Dörfern ging es nach Övertorneå. Unterwegs trafen wir tatsächlich ein Wohnmobil mit einem Schweizer Kennzeichen. Später stellte sich heraus, das dieser aus Övertorneå, Norrsken Lodge camping kam. Die letzten 30 km verliefen auf einer Strasse die man auch als geteerten Feldweg durchgehen lassen könnte. Hier waren 90km/h erlaubt, ich dürfte hier als Anhänger 80km/h fahren, aber 50km/h waren schaukelig genug.

Angekommen wurden wir herzlich von dem Schweizer Inhaber Max empfangen. Er ist mit seiner Familie vor circa 1,5-2 Jahren hier her ausgewandert und ist in der Schweiz durch die Sendung “Auf und Davon” bekannt. Wahrscheinlich ein Grund warum so viele Schweizer hier zu finden sind.

Der Stellplatz durfte selbst ausgesucht werden. Ich stehe ganz vorne am Wasser. Es stehen aktuell noch 2 andere mit Campern hier, aber das wird sich noch ändern, dann sind wir fast alleine.

The last stage, before the first longer stop, was even more lonely than the tracks before. Along lonely forests, many lakes and small villages we went to Övertorneå. On the way we actually met a motorhome with a Swiss license plate. Later it turned out that this came from Övertorneå Norrsken Lodge camping. The last 30km were on a road that could pass as tarred dirt road. Here 90km/h are allowed, of course, for me only 80km/h as trailer, but 50km/h were bone shaking enough.

Arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the Swiss owner Max. He emigrated with his family about 1.5 to 2 years ago and is known in Switzerland through the program “Auf und Davon”. Probably the reason why so many Swiss people around here. 

The pitch was allowed to be selected. I am at the very front of the water. There are currently 2 others with campers here, but that will change, then we are almost alone.

Am frühen Morgen ging es direkt weiter, wieder entlang vieler Wälder auf leeren Strassen. Wenn das in der Schweiz oder in Deutschland auch mal so wäre. Die Strecke verlief parallel zum Meer durch sehr viele Wälder mit Achtung Elch- und Schneemobil-Schildern. Die Fahrt war sehr angenehm, bis auf den Rauchmelder, der ohne Grund meinte zu piepsen, so ein doofes Ding. Nach einem Check das mit mir alles ok war ging es weiter. Die Strassen wurden noch leerer und die Wälder dichter. Mein tapferes Zugfahrzeug ist ein Volvo, er scheint sich in seiner Heimat sehr wohl zu fühlen.

Unser Ziel war ein wunderschöner Campingplatz in Byske, direkt am Meer, Ostsee.

In the early morning, we continued, again along empty streets. If that would be the case in Switzerland or Germany, it would be great. The route ran parallel to the sea through many forests with  moose and snowmobile signs. The ride was very pleasant, except for the smoke detector, which meant to beep without reason, such a stupid thing. After a check that everything was ok with me it went on. The streets became even emptier and the woods more dense. My brave towing vehicle is a Volvo, he seems to feel very comfortable in his home country.

Our destination was a beautiful campsite in Byske, right on the sea, Baltic Sea.

Nun geht es einmal quer durch Schweden, immer Richtung Norden! Richtung Stockholm, direkt am Vättern vorbei bis nach Uppsala. Die Strassen waren meistens leer, führten durch Wälder an Wiesen und Seen vorbei und so war die Fahrt sehr entspannt. Mein tapferes Zugfahrzeug hat mich ohne Mühe die Berge hoch und runter gezogen, einfach klasse.

Der Vättern ist übrigens der zweitgrösste See Schwedens. Der Blick von der Strasse aus war traumhaft.

Now, it’s time to cross Sweden, always heading north! Direction Stockholm, passing the lake Vättern to Uppsala. The roads were mostly empty, through forests, meadows and lakes, so the ride was very relaxed. My brave towing vehicle has pulled me up and down the mountains effortlessly, just great.

The lake Vättern is, by the way, the second largest lake of Sweden. The view from the street was
